Mordru takes the baby destined to become Doctor Fate to Dr. Fate's tower, so he can harness Fate's power for himself. The JSA arrive to stop him from doing so. Stargirl, a stowaway, is contacted by the spirit of Kent Nelson, the previous Doctor Fate, and he informs her how to defeat Mordru. Stargirl is able to complete her task and is surprised to find the baby, who had an old, familiar soul, has transformed into an adult Doctor Fate.
